The USTA's Best Tennis Town contest is looking for the community that best exemplifies the passion, excitement, community spirit and impact tennis brings to the members of the community. Below is the list of requirements from the nomination form needed to be qualified for the 2010 Best Tennis Town contest:

Collaboration/Partnership Information:
  • Name of Community, Region, or Metro Area (Name & State)
  • Name of the Oversight Entity ( This is the name of the commission, committee or task force working together to promote tennis across the community and submit the Best Tennis Town Nomination)
  • How do you engage other public, private, and non-profit organizations in providing quality tennis in your community?
  • List the Organizations and Contact Information of your five local partners, which must include:

    - The mayor or executive government official
    - The director of your parks and recreation department/agency
    - A community business representatives
    - Two (2) community members
Tennis Facility Information:
  • List the total number of tennis facilities & courts in your community in each of the following categories: parks, schools (K-12), commercial clubs, private clubs, universities/colleges & other facilities with tennis courts.
  • How many courts in your community are permanently lined or stand alone for the QuickStart Tennis format?

    1. # of 36 ft. permanently lined courts

  • Please provide a summary of tennis programming opportunities available to youth, teenagers, adults and older adults in your community. (List the types of programs offered by entity)
  • List the total number of tennis participants in the following categories: park and recreation programming, school (k-12) programs, commercial club programs, private club programs, university/college programs, other programs
  • What are your top three priorities for improving the quality of tennis programming in your community?
  • What procedures are in place to promote participation and inclusion for underserved audiences in your community tennis programs?
  • What education and training strategies do you use to provide coaches, parents, volunteer education?
Community Profile Information:
  • Population size of your community
  • Square mileage of your community
  • Other national recognition your city/town currently holds or has received within the last five (5) years. ( i.e. Tree City USA, Playful City USA, etc.)
  • Other national, regional, state tennis recognition your city/town/programs/teams currently holds or received within the last five (5) years. (High School State Champions, USTA League National or Sectional Champions, USTA Facility of the Year, etc.)
  • What was your city/town's most significant investment (infrastructure, financial, etc.) for tennis in the past year?
  • Please describe why your community is unique among all others to be recognized as the 2009 Best Tennis Town.
  • If you were to win the 2010 Best Tennis Town Contest, what would you do with the prize?
Mayoral or Other Executive Government Official Approval:
  • Name and email address of the mayor or executive government official
  • An email will be automatically sent to the mayor or other executive government official at the email address provided by the nominator. The official will then be instructed to respond to the email in order to submit his approval.
The nomination requirements include the following; (to be submitted by the town/city official):
  • Submit an online official nomination form containing community and tennis demographics.
  • Submit one (1) video showing the Community's spirit and passion for tennis and the impact of tennis on an individual, an organization and/or the Community as a whole. This video must be no longer than five (5) minutes and no larger than 500 mb. Video must be in one of the following formats: .mpg; .mov; .avi; .wmv; .mpeg; .flv
  • Demonstrate that the community is working in collaboration with both public and private organizations to support tennis and has a recognized tennis committee, commission or task force; to be portrayed through five (5) letters of support from the following partners:

    - The mayor or executive government official
    - The director of your parks and recreation department/agency
    - A community business representatives
    - Two (2) community members

Mayoral or Other Executive Government Official Approval:
  • The nominator will need to get approval that the mayor or other executive government offical support the submission of this application for recognition as the 2010 Best Tennis Town and that they certify that all information is true & accurate to the best of his or her knowledge.
  • The nominator will be asked to supply the name, title, phone number and email address of the mayor or other executive government official approving the application and then asked to press a button marked "Get Approval". Please note that the nominator must press the "Get Approval" to initiate the auto-approval email process prior to submitting the final nomination.
  • An email will be automatically sent to the mayor or other executive government official at the email address provided by the nominator. The official will then be instructed to respond to the email in order to submit his approval.
All entry materials will be screened by the United States Tennis Association and any that are deemed inappropriate or not suitable will be disqualified at the discretion of the USTA.

All nominations must be received in full by June 28, 2010, at 11:59 am ET. Limit one nomination per community.
